I got this great idea (and many many others) from greenbean's crafterole. Seems so simple..some chalkboard paint, ribbon, staple gun & a glue gun. Check, check, check and check. The one greenbean made was for a dance recital..which is super clever & too sweet! My chalkboards are for the 4th of July - so no tutu's :)
8x10 canvas (2/~$6.00 @ Wal Mart). Found the chalkboard paint there too.
2 coats later & some festive ribbon
Making a chalkboard made me realize I'm gonna need some chalk too. As luck would have it, I had bookmarked a post from from glitter to gumdrops.
Christy gives a step-by-step how to make your own chalk.
I HAD to try it as soon as I finished reading her post!

I used plaster of paris, wilton gel colors (blue and red) and silicone star mold (on sale at Joann's). They turned out just like Christy said they would - I love when that happens!
this is the 'drying' process -

Super cute! I love the presentation of the chalk in the mesh bags, too!
Oh my goodness!! this is the cutest idea I've seen in a LONG time! I'm in love with it. Thank you for the fun pics.
Brilliant idea! I love this!!
Such great ideas! You are making me feel bad we didn't do our Fourth Of July playdate this year :) Still cleaning up from 2 parties 2 weekends in a row.
I know, right? I can't believe I had crazy party guest stuff happening. I even saw one of my no-response invitees at the skating rink when I dropped brother off for his friend's party later that day. So awkward for her, but good for her she beelined over with the quickness with apologies.
That is AWESOME. Girl you are so creative and really crafty. I love that idea.
What a cute idea! So simple and fun. Love it.
I love your star-shaped chalk ... what a cute idea!
