My cousin J asked if I would create a Birthday banner for my newest cousin's 1st birthday. She's a 4th of July baby!! So the theme is "Little Firecracker" (so cute)
*I keep telling the parents they made out like bandits..
free fireworks every birthday
Of course I said Yes..and I quickly got to work looking for inspiration.
I shared this banner I found at Secrets of a Super Mommy
J loved it..so I went out in search of star chipboard and letters. I didn't have any luck finding plain chipboard shapes that were big enough...I came across the 4th of July aisle at Joanns. Well...they had stars galore!! I found a 5 pack of red, blue and silver stars for $2.99 (bargain, I thought). I knew that J didn't want to go all USA at A's birthday so I decided I would cover the stars with a variety of cute paper. I knew what paper I wanted. I love the red and blue patterns in this stack..
so after picking out some simple ivory chipboard letters & some other goodies for me :)
I had all my supplies. The 4th of July stuff was 1/2off (even bigger bargain)!

I traced around each shape using and exacto knife and used a fine piece of sandpaper to rough up the slick surface of the stars. Slopped on some matte Mod Podge.
here are the first 4 (I still need to sand the sides to give it a 'rustic' feel)
but I think it's going to be super
cute!

Looks fantastic! That pattern paper is very cool! May have to make a trip to Joann's.
Thanks so much for stopping by Crafts & Sutch! :) Don't you just love making stuff for other people? Me too! I just got finished doing a banner for a baby shower. :)
