'Twas the night before Christmas

and I'm planning our New Year's Eve party!!
It will be during the day this year..yeah, I know - we're wild!
So my theme is 'Black, White and Daylight' - clever huh??

I did a guest post for the sweet Carrie at The Sweetspot Candy Bar this week..
all about tips for an easy DIY holiday party.
I thought I would share my ideas with you today...in case you're having your own holiday party tonight/tomorrow or anytime this holiday season.
 -----------------------------------------
I have a weird need to do my things myself.
I enjoy the challenge of hosting parties on a budget.
Doing things myself can really help control the $$ part.
While I totally appreciate an expensive, fancy party,
a more casual get-together is more my style.

Here are some of my favorite tips when you're DIY'ing:

*Have everyone bring a dish
Whether it's a dinner party or a mid-afternoon gathering,
asking guests to bring their favorite dish
(or even requesting they bring something specific, if you have a theme)
is a great way to get everyone involved.
Plus it saves you some time.

*Have sweets
Maybe it's just me..but I love desserts.  I especially love 'cute' desserts.
If you're able to make something yourself..do it.
If you have a relative/friend that is a great baker - ask them to make something fab.
Here's a little cutie I made for my mom's holiday party
(you may have seen this on One Charming Party)

  *Decorate
I'm not talking elaborate decorations (unless that's your style).
Simple decorations sometimes make a bigger impact.
My mom has old/antique ornaments that she displays on candle holders.
The ornaments are colorful enough to stand on their own & create a nice collection.

Simple touches around the house also make a big impact.

this is a free printable found here in an expensive frame but it looks so sweet.

*Get outside*
If the weather permits...take the party outdoors.
I'm lucky to live in Central Florida where the weather is decent most of the time.
This past weekend, we were able to head outside to make smores :)

*Create/Keep traditions*
{This is a big one for me}
Each holiday party, my mom passes out inexpensive wrapped gifts
(usually from $ Tree or Target's $ Spot) to everyone.
The she reads 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Every time she reads the word 'AND' we have to pass our wrapped gift.
It always ends in a huge discussion about the hurricane part of the story
& everyone trying to switch for a 'better' gift.
it's one of my favorite traditions

the most important tip I can share is..
*Have fun*
There are times when things go wrong...the food stinks, people are arguing, the weather is crappy.  At the time, it may seem terrible.  But those times may end up being funny stories at the next holiday party.
And if all else fails..make sure you have props for pictures!!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas....

I love, love, love this post! In fact, I think we are long lost sisters! I also decorate/host parties on a dime and think traditions are soooo important -- no matter how big or how small!

I hope you have a great Christmas!
