What 'wood' you do?

You may remember, we are in the market for a new playset for the kids.
Well, I have a very handy extremely family.
The husband and my dad came up with something for our backyard
(which is tiny).
It's perfect for us.  Just a slide - with a little platform.

So now my dad (and his business partner, who is my uncle)
have designed a much larger playset.
That's the one that will be the big birthday gift for the lizard & ladybug.

Anyhoo...after the platform was finished,
there were a few scrap pieces of wood left over.
I asked my dad to cut them into blocks.
Now I have a tower (or 12 to be exact) of wood.

Now I just need a project!  What 'wood' you do with them?
Get it, WOOD - yeah, that's your Monday funny :)

What kinds of things would you do with these little gems?

Fall decor Friday {plus lots of freebies}

man, I'm really hooked on using the days of the week in my posts (here and here

I have made a deal (with myself) to spend little to no money* on my Thanksgiving decorations.  That also includes Thanksgiving table decorations.
*meaning, I'm using stuff I already have around the house
(that may have been purchased some time back)

I've decided I want to keep things simple - pinecones, leaves, pumpkins etc.
I found these great doilies a while back at Dollar Tree (a pack of 36/$1)

I've used them to make Fall favors so they've already paid for themselves :)

I thought they would make a great banner...
so I made one using some twine from The Twinery

Here's a glimpse of it on my mantle (along with my 'thanks' blocks)

it's cute right?

I have since moved it to the kid's bathroom to make room for another banner.
A great freebie from Designs by Paola  It's printed and ready to go!!
I'll show you a picture of the completed mantle...once it's - well, complete :)

Here's a peek at the kid's bathroom

pine cones (free), pumpkin doily (Dollar Tree), bucket ($2.50 @ Target)

Speaking of freebies..
Here are a few that I'm digging:
Living Locurto put together this great collection of freebies
anna and blue paperie has a gorgeous set
Craftily Ever After has a great Thanksgiving subway art printable
Hello, Good Gravy has too cute Thanksgiving gift tags

If there are other freebie printables that you love...let me know (so I can share).

Have a great weekend.

Florida State, Florida State, Florida State - WOOOOOO!
College football is fast approaching....
as a FSU fan, I needed to get my craft on - 'Nole' style.
I spray painted 3 1/2" blocks, used garnet & gold scrapbook paper
and black vinyl letters.
Mod Podged the paper on the blocks...and once it was dry, I sanded the edges to make them look worn.  Finally, I added the vinyl letters.

I love the old school look of these.

Time to get working on the husband's team.... O-H I-O (go Buckeyes)!

*here's the deal - the blocks were left over from these blocks.
The scrapbook paper was on sale 5 for $1 at JoAnns & the vinyl letters were buy 1 get 1 1/2 off, also at JoAnns.  Spray paint and Mod Podge, I already had.
Grand total for these old school blocks = ~ $5

giving 'thanks'...in August

inspired by I heart naptime w/Chocolate Sundaes post about blocks...
I wanted to try a version of my own.
I had the husband cut some wood into 3 1/2" blocks
(he loves when my projects let him use the big tools).
I spray painted them orange. And then decided on a theme.
Backwards, I know.  Anyhoo...I picked Thanksgiving.
I dug around in my craft tub and found some 'fall' scrapbook paper.
I used spray adhesive to attach the paper to the blocks.  Used Mod Podge to cover.
I had some chipboard letters left over from a birthday banner I made.
So all in all..this project was ~$3.00 (the cost of the wood).
the 'h' may or may not be a 'y'...shhh, don't tell :)

I have 2 more sets in mind...football season is fast approaching :)
